Like a Kenyan!

The Physical Kenya House Expo at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 successfully combined elements of culture, sports, trade, tourism, and shared heritage. The gamified approach ensured an immersive and memorable experience for visitors, leaving them with a sense of what it felt like to be “Like a Kenyan.” The exhibit not only celebrated Kenya’s unique identity but also strengthened the bonds between Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth. The use of technology, interactive displays, and a photo booth encouraged visitors to share their experiences on social media, extending the impact of Kenya House beyond the physical space.

Run Like a Kenyan!

From its inception, our objective was to craft an immersive and professional showcase celebrating the dynamic facets of Kenya’s culture, trade, tourism, and sports. The theme, “Like A Kenyan,” encapsulated a journey through time, intertwining the rich history of Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth.

In the sports section, we curated high-quality, dynamic images capturing athletes in motion, showcasing their intensity, passion, and victorious moments. Complemented by breathtaking images of Kenya’s landscapes, wildlife, and communities, the visuals not only highlighted the nation’s natural beauty but also instilled pride and cultural identity. Inspired by the vibrant palette of African landscapes and symbolic hues, our choice of colors aimed to visually connect with Kenya’s heritage. Incorporating symbols from the Maasai people and the national flag added cultural significance, fostering unity. The incorporation of patterns added a dynamic element, unifying the various experiences under a cohesive theme.

The overall design and theme of aimed to be distinctly Kenyan, drawing inspiration from the country’s rich past while keeping a modern and forward-looking perspective. We wanted to give the visitors a taste of what it meant to be a Kenyan.

Play Like a Kenyan!

Our team meticulously designed a gamified experience, where visitors were bestowed with a Kenya House “passport” on entry, guiding them through a sequence of exciting exhibits and encouraging them to check off as they navigate through different exhibits, becoming “Like a Kenyan.”

The journey commenced with “Karibu Kenya,” an introduction to the country through graphic panels, messages from the President, and a warm welcome to Kenya House. The excitement escalated as visitors delved into interactive displays honoring Kenyan sporting legends, and partaking in the rhythm of Kenyan dances. Traditional games such as Bao added a playful touch, allowing visitors to “Play Like a Kenyan.”

Fly Like a Kenyan!

The trade experience beckoned visitors to “Drink Chai and Kahawa Like a Kenyan,” presenting an engaging exploration of Kenya’s tea culture. Meanwhile, the tourism exhibit, “Tembea Kenya,” showcased the country’s magical destinations through interactive touch screen kiosks and display panels. A digital tour, “Visit Kenya House – Digital,” provided accessibility on various devices, allowing visitors to virtually navigate the exhibit.

An essential addition to the exhibition celebrated the iconic Kenyan Matatu, showcased in a large-scale mural at the journey’s conclusion. This vibrant representation highlighted the cultural significance of the Matatu, serving as a symbol deeply woven into the fabric of Kenyan life.

The culmination of this exciting journey occurred at a photo booth, where visitors could capture memories and share their completed experience on social media.

Highlighting our commitment to shared heritage, an interactive Commonwealth Heritage Timeline unfolded a captivating narrative from 1954 to the present day. The culmination of this exciting journey occurred at a photo booth, where visitors could capture memories and share their completed experience on social media.
